"If you knew anything about me,
you’d know that I conform to the theory
that there has to be a point in the universe
where genetic codes begin to repeat themselves.
Multiple mes,
multiple yous,
scattered throughout time and space.
In this version of the multiple mes and multiple yous,
we’re a pair of perpendicular lines.
If the circumstances were any different,
we’d be running along the same coordinates,
together forever.
Instead, we’re doomed to one meeting. One intersection.
Ha.
All of time and space, all of its repetitions,
and I’m in the one where you and I cross paths once.
But I guess it’s kind of comforting:
in one of these alternate realities,
you and I are together. We’re happy.
There’s nothing more we want in the world
than to be with each other.
Now, if that you
is happy with that me,
then I’ll be happy for them. Us.
Because if the two of us being apart
is what means they’re together,
I hope they stay that way.
I’d never take any you away from any me.
I know how that feels already.
That alternate us can be happy.
At least that means at least one me
in all of time and space
gets to be with one you.
It’s just a pity it couldn’t have been this one.
